Competition:   News     Events     Publications     People     Offices     Links     FAQs

Our Competition team consists of EU and national antitrust specialists based in our Brussels, London and Manchester offices, and is further enhanced by antitrust specialists in our offices or associated offices in France, Germany, Italy* and Spain. We boast antitrust specialists qualified in all of the above jurisdictions, as well as Austria, Belgium, Greece, Ireland, Israel, and China.

The team comprises dedicated lawyers who are experts in their field, who have extensive experience of a broad range of topics and who combine technical expertise with a commercial and focused approach to complex legal issues.

Our service includes advising clients in the following areas:

  • Merger control advice for national, European and worldwide mergers and acquisitions, including joint ventures
  • National and pan-European antitrust advice, including advising on Articles 101 (prohibition of anti-competitive agreements) and 102 (abuses of dominance) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union and national equivalents (for example, the Chapter I and II prohibitions under the UK Competition Act 1998), as well as the cartel offence and market study/investigation regime under the UK Enterprise Act 2002
  • Competition compliance training (including running mock dawn raids and other interactive sessions)
  • Representation in antitrust-related litigation before national and European courts: in conjunction with our dispute resolution colleagues, we advise on litigious disputes involving competition, thereby leveraging Hammonds' expertise in both fields
  • Advice to public and private companies, governments, governmental institutions and regional development agencies over the world on a wide range of legal issues in the context of EU State aid law and practice.
